Whales are the biggest creatures on the planet. They are amazing, beautiful gracefull creatures, however, because they are the biggest, they were are one time thought the most profitable. From the late 1800's to the mid 1900's thousands and thousands of whales were killed. Many species came terribly close to extinction. Luckily, in the mid 1990's whaling was declared illigal in most places. This didn't however make up for the damage already done. Many whales had been slaughtered and, because they are so slow to reproduce, many are still vulnerable today.
