  • 6 meter blow
  • dorsal fin 2/3 of the way down their back
  • identified by their pointed head

Behavior

  • dives max of 300 meters
  • travels in groups of 6-10
  • communicate through the following:
    • breaching
    • moans
    • pulses
    • clicks
    • grunts

Population

  • 50-100 thousand
  • not endangered, but vulnerable

Longevity

  • about 60 years

Human influence

  • as blue whale population went down, whalers went to the nest largest whale, the fin whale
  • not legally protected until 1976
